Three months after the events at Helgen, and after Lo-Sarak leaves to seek out his own path, the group makes their way to Whiterun, finding solace with The Companions. In an effort to complete their quest to join the Companions, Eniik, the Harbinger, sends them and three potential Shield brothers (Quilshan, a dragonborn, Nirius and SalRievel, Bosmers) underground in Whiterun's sewer system for a lost sword and in an attempt to rid the city of nefarious pests. They are met by a feisty group of goblins, and swarms of rats, both of which are disposed of quickly.
Upon finding a larger area filled with sewer water and huge piles of rubbish in the center, they are met with a huge goblin wielding the very sword they needed, and an even larger snake within the waters. After a long battle, the group kills the goblin, the snake, and Sal Reivel takes the sword. The group makes their way back to Jorvaskr where they rest and later head to the Bannered Mare to celebrate. While there, they meet Svaela, an old Nord friend of Ivers, who joins their group as they take a job searching for the skeleton companion of Tala, the mage of Dragonreach. After much investigating and searching, the group winds up just outside of Whiterun near a farm. After disposing of some skeevers and spiders, the group finds the skeleton in a cave and he is returned safely to his owner.
