The group is hired as guards in a caravan traveling to Valenwood, a prime opportunity for the group's goals to find Drathyss. Also hired is Wuunferth, another Shield Brother and member of the Circle of the Companions. The group meets an eager Bard named Ephyra who entertains the patrons. Ra'Ginn meets one of the caravan members, a young Breton escorting a dead wizard to a Cleric for resurrection. While visiting in the Breton's wagon, Ra'Ginn looks around for anything important. He does notice a chest with a lock. During the second day of travel, the caravan comes across webs covering the road and the group is thrust into combat with 3 large spiders.
After taking care of the spider threat, and clearing the road of webs, the caravan resumes its journey. While everyone gets ready to turn in, Ra'Ginn approaches one of the caravan members, an Imperial woman, and offers her a small job stealing anything of worth. She accepts, hoping to become a member of the Guild.
During first watch Wuunferth notices a figure sneaking around the caravan and entering one of the wagons. He waits outside the wagon and grabs the figure as they attempt to leave. It is the Imperial woman, who defends herself with her daggers as he attempts to subdue her. Having to call his Dire Wolf, Yuki, the woman is knocked down and pinned beneath the animal. Wuunferth interrogates her and she tells him that she accepted a job from Ra'Ginn and took a pouch filled with gold and an amulet. He takes the pouch and ties the woman up. Having Yuki guard the woman, Wuunferth and Nirius confront Ra'Ginn about the woman. He persuades them that he has no knowledge of the theft and the confrontation turns tense, with Ra'Ginn casting Thamaturgy in order to convince Wuunferth to step down. Returning to the tied up Imperial woman, Wuunferth buries the pouch just outside of camp.
During the second watch of the night, Svaela and Ra'Ginn talk about the Imperial woman and how Ra'Ginn wishes to handle it. He doesn't seem very concerned with it, and their conversation is steered towards their dreams. Ra'Ginn expresses that he wished to commune and possibly be granted luck. They both walk to just outside of the camp as Ephyra wakes and begins to watch them. As the two take an almost meditative stance, a large blue glow forms in front of them. Ra'Ginn speaks with the voice, offering to guard her Twilight Seplecher. She tells him she requires a third and will eventually make herself known to them, and bring them together. In the meantime, she gives them luck.
As Ephrya watches, she can hear the voice, though not Ra'Ginns responses. She too, is gifted with Luck.
