C1 Session 19: Inquiry and Massacre

The group, having just defeated a large and deadly Beholder, deals with the deaths of Svaela and Inamie. Nirius takes some of Inamie's ashes and they all agree to leave Svaela's body behind. Nirius remembers hearing about the Orb of Dragonsouls through stories told during his childhood. He recalls that is was made by Akatosh to control dragons. They agree that they must track down Drathis quickly to take back the orb before he attempts to use it. Upon leaving the sewers, they are greeted by a courier who delivers a letter from Finneas. In this letter, he tells them Cleavas is dead at the hand of Drathis and that he is fleeting to a safe location. He gives them each a pouch of gold and access to the Mages Guild library in Alinor. They decide on a group name, The Doomslayers.

They spend hours researching in the Mages library. Wuunferth searches for instruction on learning Dovazhul amongst various spells to no avail. RaGinn researches dragons and orbs but is not successful in his endeavors, and Nirius researches the Dragonsoul Orb and has more success with his search. He learns that there are 4 orbs, not just one. The Orb of Dragon Souls which gives the owner heavy influence over dragons, the Orb of Dragon Tongue which gives the owner the ability to speak Dovahzul, the Orb of Dragon Summoning- this orb gives the owner the ability to summon a Dragon from anywhere and the Orb of Thu'um which gives the owner the ability to use Thu'um. He also learns about the Crown of Akatosh. When the 4 orbs are placed within the crown, the holder can harness all four abilities. On their own the orbs do nothing. their power only is activated once all 4 orbs are in the crown. He also learns that the only ones who know the location of the stones is the Greybeards.

After hours of research, they find lodging in a local Inn. Wuunferth and Hella spend the night together while Nirius drinks at the tavern. Ephyra sleeps while RaGinn visits the local bath house. He meets an Argonian man named Deeeeja, a well to do noble from Alinor. RaGinn is invited to visit a friends home with Deeeeja and spends a romantic night together. While the Argonian is asleep, RaGinn steals from him. He obtains a glass sphere, an intricately carved flute, and jewelry. After leaving a letter for Deeeehja, RaGinn return to his room at the Inn, spending a few minutes inspecting the sphere. As he plays around with it, two yellow eyes stare back at him from within the sphere.

The next morning, Ephyra finds that RaGinn has left the flute on her belongs with a note that reads "for my friend." She takes the flute and goes for a walk while playing her new instrument. She discovers it has certain abilities, such as making her more persuasive and causing other people to dance. Troubled by the vision of the eyes from the previous night, RaGinn attempts to look into the sphere again, but sees nothing. He joins Nirius and Ephyra for breakfast. Wuunferth, on his way down to join his party, sends one of the workers out to buy him flowers and a ruby ring. During breakfast, the group discusses returning to Skyrim and visiting the Greybeards.  They all decide to approach the Mages Guild in the hopes of using their teleportation circles to get to Skyrim quickly. Before leaving, Wuunferth proposes to Hella, who, although hesitantly, agrees.

While in the Mages Guild, RaGinn approaches one of the men with questions about the sphere. The Mage seems troubled by the sphere and asks to study it for a while. Concerned that he would not get his treasure back, the man hands him his Mages amulet. Satisfied, RaGinn leaves the sphere for study. The Mages allow the group to travel via teleportation circle after seeing RaGinn with the amulet. They arrive in Winterhold and are equipped with horses and provision as the Mages were under the impression that RaGinn was a very important Mage named the Doomslayer. The group plots their route to Riften while Wuunferth sends a letter to the Companions through a courier and Nirius buys wolf pelts for everyone to stay warm.

After one night it Windhelm the group heads for Riften. They face off with an angry Frost Troll, quickly defeating it. Ahead of schedule and camps down for the night, a half a day away from Riften. RaGinn sends his raven with a message to the Thieves Guild to alert them of his return. As they are traveling the next morning, the raven returns with the message still in its possession. RaGinn is worried and anxious to get to Riften and the group increases their speed, pushing their horses to the limit.
Upon arriving to Riften, RaGinn quickly takes the group to the Thieves Guild entrance. Once inside the Cistern, they are met with a gruesome sight. Broken, destroyed and mutilated bodies lie before them. Everyone dead, nothing taken, RaGinn's Guild now fallen.

As the group sits in the Ragged Flaggon piecing together what happened, RaGinn wondering where Silas is, they hear the heavy door to the Cistern open....
