C1 Session 21: A Quest of Tombs and 7000 Steps

The group safely arrives at Iverstead after an attack from a group of Owlbears. While in the small settlement, RaGinn sends a letter to The Bee N' Barb in Riften to be alert for anyone seeking the Doomslayer. Wuunferth wonders if they are being tailed, looks around but senses nothing. The party decides to stay one night at the inn before heading to High Hrothgar in the morning.

Eniaak, the leader of the Companions, arrives after receiving the letter from Wuunferth requesting aid in regards to Drathis. During the conversation, RaGinn asks Eniaak to hide a certain item for him that is of great importance. Wuunferth wonders why it seems Eniaak is giving favors to someone he doesn't know. RaGinn assures him there are certain responsibilities passed down through the eras that he must uphold. Einaak tells them that he will get the item from him in the morning and will hold a meeting with the rest when they show up.

The group is restless and decides to explore the ancient Nordic tomb, Shroud Hearth Barrow just outside the town. The group is met with locked doors, puzzles, and attacks from Dragur. Safely making it out of the Barrow, the group retires for the night.

exhausted from the battle RaGinn throws a flame skull and ignite the bodies.

With the next morning upon them, Wuunferth and RaGinn have a conversation. Wuunferth wants to know how RaGinn knows about the Companions. RaGinn assures him that he does not know who Einaak is, but that he understands that a man in his position demands respect. Wuunferth wonders why he wants him to hide something and RaGinn explains that the Companions are trustworthy, to which Wuunferth agrees. He asks him what he desires and RaGinn tell him he desires Drathis. They speak about the Thieves Guild, how it will be rebuilt. They agree that perhaps they can be friends and RaGinn assures Wuunferth that the item he is having Eniaak hide is not anything to do with what they are dealing with, but something far greater.

Nirius brings Wuunferth a tankard and asks him about the inner circle, wondering what it entails for him. Nirius wonders how long he has been in the Companions and Wuunferth tells him he has been with the group for as long as he can remember, about 15 to 20 years. Wuunferth tells him that he will go through a ritual undergoing a transformation, that it is painful, people will view him as violent, but that he can adapt and learn. He tells Nirius you cannot reverse it and that the life is hard, especially the Bosmer not accepting this life. Wuunferth wonders once they reach their goal, what will Nirius do then with that kind of life. Nirius says he hasn't even seen his family or his home for over 50 years and that his intention is to bring an end to an enemy that brings harm to the world.

They leave and head up the mountain. The journey begins easy but as they go higher up the mountain, the air gets colder, thinner, and the road begins to turn more treacherous.

Two of the party members, Ephyra and Nirius succumb to the freezing temperatures and treacherous terrain and decide to return JaInamie's ashes to her family. The group steels themselves and vows to continue in the work of stopping Drathis.
