C1 Session 23: Plans and Parties

The group has a relatively easier time traversing the last half of the 7,000 steps to High Hrothgar. Once to The Throat of the World, they meet with the Greybeards, of which they explain the death of Svaela, their former student, the orbs and Drathis, the Dunmer who seeks the orbs, the Crown and their power.

They discuss with the Greybeards the locations of the orbs and the crown. The Orb of Dragon Souls is currently in the possession of Drathis, the Orb of Dragontongue is known to be in Avanchanzel deep within a Dwemer ruin. The Orb of Dragon Summoning is in The Teeth of Sithis, an ancient Sithis temple in Murkmire and the Orb of Thu'um resides in Blackreach. The Greybeards explain that in the 4th era they tasked the Dragonborn with destroying the orbs. When he couldn't. he hid them. With the Chantry, Akatosh's sacred order, giving the Crown to Sheogorath to keep safe in his Shivering Isles.

The group knows that this is an undertaking that they cannot face alone. The Greybeards agree and suggest invoking the Sky's Oath. RaGinn informs them that he has already summoned this oath. The Greybeards tell the group that they must go to Windhelm to conduct the Sky's Oath gathering. They will inform the leaders of The Blades, the Mages, Bards, and Companions. No one has been able to locate The Dark Brotherhood, though they will keep attempting.

They are told to seek out the favor of the Jarl of Windhelm as he is brother-in-law of the Emperor and direct descendant of Ulfric Stormcloak. He would be beneficial to have at their disposal. The Greybeards send Aviniir with them, as a representative for the Greybeards for the Oath.

RaGinn asks Julida is she would travel to Riften to begin rebuilding the Thieves Guild, an assignment she thankfully accepts.

With Julida heading to Riften, the rest of the group is teleported via circle to the Mage's college in Winterhold. After few nights of studying and partying with the students, the groups walks the rest of the way to Windhelm.

Arriving in Windhelm, they are greeted with preparations for Emperor's Day, a huge festival that spans all of the Stormcloak regions of Tamriel. Celebrations span an entire week with thousands arriving to partake. Emperor's Day, a day originally celebrating the seated emperor in Imperial City, was transformed into a day to celebrate Ulfric Stormcloak, the day he conquered the city, renaming it Stormcloak City. The festivities, while a grand affair in Stormcloak City, pale in comparison to the festivities in Windhelm, where a descendant of Ulfirc himself must be Jarl. Since Windhelm was the very city in which Nords inhabited the longest and in which Stormcloak rule originated, the week long celebration is a sight to be had.

Immediately upon arriving, the group decides to approach the Jarl in order to fill him in on the current situation with the orbs and Drathis. However, they learn from the guards that he is not currently in Windhelm, as the Jarl is always away from the city for safety the days leading up to the celebration.

They decide to spend some time shopping, wandering the city and finding a place to stay. Sal carves mini statues and sells them to vendors, RaGinn visits the Hall of the Dead in order to animate a skeleton (who almost gives them away by knocking into a large urn, nearly alerting the priest) and the others run into Ephyra who promptly rejoins the group.

The next morning the group goes to the location that was given to them in a note by a courier when they arrived in the city. An upper room above an upscale inn and tavern in the wealthier part of Windhelm. The group is greeted by Penelope, leader of the Blades, Lanister, Headmaster of The Bards College, Ylora, Archmage of The Mage's College with her assistant Vredic. Eniaak of the Companions and Aveniir of the Greybeards are also in attendance.

The group discusses the Orbs, their power, and Drathis in its entirety. They all agree that it would be best if they acquired the orbs before he gains any more. Each group agrees to go to a different location of the orbs to attempt to find them. Ylora offers rings to the group, telling them that by wearing it, they become more armored. As they finish their meeting, Penelope slips Sal a paper, while Lanister, who seems quite taken with Ephyra, asks to see her that evening. Once outside, Sal reads the note, which begs for the group to meet Penelope outside the city at the stables. He alerts the group and they begin to make their way towards the gates.
