C3 Session 1: The Temple of Eternal Horizon

 

Freeya, a Hedge, Blossom, a Rhopoda, Porthos, a Minotaur, and Melo, a Mapach, have all been hired by The Amesterre Conservatory of Magic to explore an old temple ruin in the Dragon Spine Isles. Their contact, Cendrail Stargazer, a half elf who has studied Astromancy for years, has given them information about an expedition that went missing decades ago. He gives the group some notes found from the expedition that talks about the temple being "sky watchers" and full of traps.

The party begins to explore the temple, they find that all of the traps have been triggered, leaving none of them active. After encountering a large dragonskull crab (and quickly disposing of it) they push through the rest of the temple.

A strange room, with gears and large gyroscopes and platforms surrounded by reliefs and paintings on the walls of the astral plane offer the group buffs when the machine is activated, including some strange visions. Figures in cloaks, a dragon burning the world, the astral plane, all confusing for the group.

They push on and later discover a room with an inhabitant. A pushy ghost named Magnus Black is quite curious about the findings of the groups exploration. They realize this is the leader of the lost expedition. Magnus tells them there is something of value in the next room. When they party enters, they see a large compass sitting atop a pillar. Once removed from the pillar, a loud click sounds throughout the temple as all the traps reset. Looking closely at the compass, they notice there are multiple chambers, one of which has a strange stone or metal inside. They decide to take the compass and brave the traps back through the temple.

With wits and resolve, they outsmart each room of traps as they each take their time moving back to the entrance.

Their way out has collapsed and Blossom tells the group that when they were fighting the Dragon Skull crab, she noticed a tunnel in the pool of water the crab came out of. The group decides to swim the tunnel, some having a more difficult time then others. But they make it out the other side into a room that leads out. Before leaving, they notice the compass is pointing in a certain direction. They find another strange stone or metal just like the one in the compass. They place it in a chamber and the compass points in one direction.

They leave the temple and begin their journey back to Amesterre.
